We are thrilled and immensely proud to present the route of La Vuelta 25. The next edition will be a special one: we’re turning 90! This anniversary invites us to remember where we come from and to dream about our future, to pay tribute to our heroes and to the places that have marked our history, and also offer new challenges that will continue to forge our legend.
La Vuelta 25 will take off from the majestic region of Piedmont, at the foot of the Italian Alps. This will be an unprecedented and very demanding start to the race, in a setting steeped in history and natural beauty, that will allow us to further strengthen the ties between the main territories of European cycling.
From Italy, the route will take us through French roads, before arriving in Spain via Catalonia. Subsequent stages will lead us to the mountainous Principality of Andorra, the fourth country to host us in this edition, before returning to Spain in order to continue the race through Aragon, La Rioja, Navarre, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Galicia and Castilla y León before arriving in Madrid, where we bring back one of its most emblematic summits and the traditional circuit throughout the capital.
The 2025 route pays homage to tradition by including some of La Vuelta’s historic mountain passes. The peloton will, once again, face some of the climbs that have marked the race’s nine-decade history. Morredero, Cerler and Valdezcaray have all witnessed unforgettable feats and will, undoubtedly, be the stars of this edition’s key moments.
There is no shortage of climbs that have marked the race’s recent history, such as Andorra, Angliru, La Farrapona and Bola del Mundo. This nod to tradition also includes Valladolid, the city that hosted La Vuelta’s first finish-line in 1935 and that, as a special tribute, will host a decisive individual time trial just four days before the race’s grand finale.
However, not everything will be a journey to the past. La Vuelta is known to innovate and amaze, and this year will be no different. In an unusual way, we will include a team time trial in Stage 5 – a collective challenge to mark differences from the start, thus adding to the excitement early on. Also new will be the demanding start in Italy, with a high-altitude finale during Stage 2.
