La Vuelta and Europcar renew their agreement and drive together towards decarbonisation: over 45% of its fleet will consist of plug-in hybrids

Europcar, Europe’s leading car and van rental company, has renewed its agreement with La Vuelta for the 14th consecutive year to be one of the race’s official car suppliers.

Thanks to this, La Vuelta, which will take off from Barcelona on the 26th of August, will leave a lighter environmental and acoustic footprint than ever: out of the more than 140 vehicles ceded by the company, over 45% will be plug-in hybrids.

This fleet will include the models used by La Vuelta to transport the organisation, the media, the organisation’s medical vehicles and the sponsors that travel with the race every day.

‘We’re thrilled for a longstanding partner like Europcar to share our philosophy and support our mission to make La Vuelta more sustainable,’ explained Javier Guillén, General Director of La Vuelta.

EUROPCAR: AN INCREASINGLY GREEN FLEET

The car rental company has launched the programme ‘A sustainable fleet’ with one main objective: environmentally friendly vehicles (those that emit less than 50 g of CO2/km) will represent at least 20% of its total fleet of cars and vans all over the world by the end of 2024.

According to Michel Kisfaludi, Europcar’s General Director in Spain and Portugal, they are increasingly closer to achieving that goal in Spain: ‘Today, Europcar already has over 7,200 electric and hybrid vehicles available for its clients, the largest fleet of its kind in the country’s car rental sector.’

Thanks to this commitment, the company has been the first mobility service company whose carbon reduction objectives have been approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), the association promoted by the United Nations Global Compact.
