The ascent of the Valdezcaray made its La Vuelta debut in 1988 with a stage that took off from Santander. It was also present in the following three editions, with an individual time trial starting in Ezcaray that became a regular at that time. Measuring a little more than 13 kilometres, the climb is toughest at the start. During La Vuelta 25, it will seek a worthy successor for Australian rider Simon Clarke, the Rioja summit’s most recent champion.
