Vitoria will host a La Vuelta stage departure for the 21st time, just two years after the last time (2022). Vitoria-Gasteiz, and the entire Basque Country, are devoted to both cycling and sustainable development, as well as other environmental policies. This has resulted in Vitoria-Gasteiz being recognised as a European Green Capital in 2012. This award, which has only been given to two Spanish cities, recognises the environmental efforts made by large European cities.
