Since making its debut in 1999, the climb of Angliru never fails to make an impression. Its slopes have brought out the riders’ best climbing abilities, thus adding several chapters to La Vuelta’s history. ‘Chava’ Jiménez was the first to emerge victorious on the Asturian summit, where Alberto Contador obtained his first and last La Vuelta victories, 10 years apart. Other winners, having overcome the slopes of Les Cabanes and Cueña les Cabres, include Primoz Roglic and Roberto Heras – the riders with more La Vuelta general classification victories (4).
